Raz Schwartz is a doctoral candidate in the STS program at Bar Ilan University. Raz has been researching the issue of location based virtual communities and his dissertation in progress is a sociological study investigating the emergence of a Virtual-Local Community that exists in the mobile internet. This unique kind of Virtual Community portrays both virtual and local characteristic and can be formed only by the use of mobile internet connection on mobile phones. Identifying this new form of social interaction can set the ground to an extension of the current definitions of the Virtual Community and pioneer the study of this relatively new academic field.
