Boaz Tamir

Boaz Tamir holds a Ph.D. from the Department of Mathematics of the Weizmann Institute of Science on his work on representation of unitary algebraic groups over p-adic fields, (which is number theory and Lie group theory), under the supervision of Steve Gerlbart. Following his Ph.D. he became interested with quantum physics, relativity and philosophy of science. He got his second Ph.D. in 2008 from Bar-Ilan University, the Program for Science, Technology and Society, on his work on quantum simulation and quantum computation, under the supervision of Avshalom Elitzur

His fields of interests are: Lie groups, Representation theory, p-adic valuation theory, Information theory, Quantum physics, Special and General Relativity, Quantum computation, Quantum information, D.N.A computation, bio-information, Philosophy of science, History of computation and computers

During the last few years he published several papers on representations of groups, quantum algorithms, quantum information, bio-information, and philosophy of science.

Boaz Tamir also teaches at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design on the relations between arts and sciences. He is also one of the founders of the new institute Iyar - the Israeli Institute for Advanced Research.

In 2011 he was awarded the Pitowsky prize by the department of History and Philosophy of science of the Hebrew university for his recent work in the fields of quantum computation and quantum information.
