High throughput technologies and "big data" have changed the way hypotheses are formulated and tested in biomedical research. Data-derived models of biological systems are at the heart of this change. However, critical assessment of current modelling tools of biological systems shows that most of the models they generate are highly inaccurate. We will review ideas and approaches for using these mostly wrong models to understand disease, design drugs and improve human health.
