For the last 50 years we have been told that fat clogs our arteries and that eating fat makes us fat. In the 1980s the government issued the food pyramid that recommended basing our diets on carbohydrates. Unfortunately, as America and the rest of the world followed these guidelines, the obesity and diabetes epidemics have skyrocketed. In recent years, people have been questioning the science behind these recommendations and are succeeding in restoring their metabolic health by turning the pyramid upside down -- basing their diet on fat and protein. Dr. Mariela Glandt, an endocrinologist treating diabetes for 20 years, shares her recent experience of using diet as the main tool for treating the root cause of diabetes, while challenging the standard of care.
